Supporting Families in Ukraine

A note from Annette Brüls, Chief Executive Officer at Medela
Medela logo and the tagline, the science of care

As many of you, Medela continues to watch the conflict between Ukraine and Russia escalate with deep concern for all the families impacted and displaced by the fighting. We condemn any act of violence and war, such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and as part of the company’s commitment to nurturing health for generations, our teams around the world have been actively finding ways to support the Ukrainian people.

How Medela Teams are getting involved

From the donating critical products, like wound care dressings and pumps, vacuum-assisted delivery devices and breast pumps, and more, the Medela family is rallying to provide relief to the people in need. As part of Medela Cares, Medela has committed up to 250,000 CHF, consisting of financial aid and in-kind contributions to support the relief efforts:

  • Working with the company’s Ukrainian partner on the ground, Medela is donating wound dressings and suction pumps, vacuum-assisted delivery equipment and breastfeeding supplies to benefit those impacted, with one of the designated consignees being Kharkiv City Perinatal Center.
  • Medela supports an NGO's emergency relief efforts by employee blood drive efforts and matching financial donations, providing support to refugee along the refugee routes routes. The supported centers provide vital emergency aid and supply children and their families with clean water, health and hygiene kits in the crisis area.
  • Several Medela sites have taken immediate action to provide support, such as Medela Poland partnering with a local NGO to support families with essential breastfeeding supplies in the Perinatology Center in Kiev, where doctors have set up delivery rooms and a temporary NICU in the basement. Likewise, the team has also distributed essential breastfeeding products to arriving refugees, refugee centers and hospitals at border checkpoints. These are just a few examples of the many efforts currently underway.

At Medela, we are guided by our purpose to improve outcomes globally and nurture health for generations. The Ukrainian people have our full support, and our hearts are with them as we continue to hope for a peaceful resolution.

We will share updates on this donations as information is available. For more information, visit www.MedelaCares.com.
