Medela Cares: 2020 Communication of Progress Report

One year ago in June 2020, we launched Medela Cares, our corporate social responsibility programme, and joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). By becoming a member of the UNGC, we made a commitment to leave a legacy to be proud of, identifying how our company has a unique opportunity to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and clarifying our journey of continuous improvement in alignment with the 10 UNGC principles.

Given the current pandemic and its unprecedented impact on the health and safety of women and people from marginalized communities around the world, we see the importance for our company to engage and expand our role and lead the conversation about women and children’s health, specifically, maternal health care - now more than ever before. Medela is in a unique position to: fight infant and maternal mortality and malnutrition; protect the most vulnerable infants; increase access to quality healthcare, education and resources; and promote gender equality and inclusion.

Anchored by our three pillars People, Planet, and Society, we have made significant progress through this first year since the launch of Medela Cares, and as new members of the UNGC. We have provided governance for our global and local initiatives, strengthened our internal structures and identified new partnerships that will help us live up to our commitments and aspirations. Taking these steps and joining the UNGC, we support public accountability and transparency, presenting our first UNGC report on our progress. Knowing that we have achieved a lot already, we also know there is still a lot of work to do, and we are committed to continuous improvement so we can make a difference on a global scale and leave a legacy to be proud of.
